Civic Action
Toolbox
Coming Early 2027

Readers don't lack outrage. They lack the phone number.

A free tool that puts who decides, when, and how to reach them inside your story — and counts every action readers take. We're opening a pilot group of newsrooms in early 2027.

The product

Every story ends in something you can do.

The action box sits beside the reporting: who decides, when they meet, how to reach them — and a place for readers to say what they did.

How it works

Three steps, ten minutes, every story.

01

Paste your story

Drop in the article. The toolbox finds the decision-maker, the deadline and the ask buried in your reporting.

02

Edit and embed

You approve the words. A simple embed drops the action box into the story, styled to sit with your reporting.

03

Count what happens

Every call, comment and public-meeting RSVP is counted — story by story, in a dashboard you can show funders.

$0

Free for newsrooms, at any size.

10min

From paste to published action box.

Who's behind it

Built by a newsroom, for newsrooms.

Civic Action Toolbox comes from the team at Planet Detroit, who spent years watching readers finish a story angry and with nowhere to put it. The project is supported by a Reynolds Journalism Institute fellowship.
